BAITADI: The beneficiaries have been deprived of social security allowance for the past two months in Baitadi district, affecting those the most who depend on the allowance for sustenance. The government is to provide senior citizens above 70 years of age with Rs 2,000 per month under this scheme, and Dalits and children with Rs 1,000 monthly. Likewise, persons with disability holding red cards under the complete disabled category are to receive Rs 2,000 and blue card holders Rs 600. The first instalment of four months' allowance was supposed to be distributed in the Nepali month of Kartik. Thanks to the failure to update data on the beneficiaries on time, this instalment remained unpaid. Of the total 10 local levels in the district, beneficiaries from all except Dasharathchand and Patan Municipalities in the district have been deprived of the facility. Data on the beneficiaries could not be updated on time due to the restructuring of local bodies under the new federal setup, said Executive Officer Ganesh Singh Airee at the Sunarya Rural Municipality. 'Updating data on the beneficiaries has been completed. We are preparing to distribute two instalments of the allowance including the first installment at the same time,' he said.
