One killed, five injured in explosions

Rupandehi, February 12:

A civilian was killed and two others were injured when an explosive planted by the Maoists on the bridge over Tulbuliya river at Dudhrakshya VDC went off this afternoon. The bridge lies on the Butwal-Gorusinghe section of the Mahendra Highway.

According to the Area Police Office, Butwal, Paru BK,15, daughter of Dhan Bahadur BK, who is a resident of Rupandehi’s Parroha VDC, died on the spot.

Dhani Ram Chaudhary, 31, a resident of the Dudhrakshya-6 and Kali Thapa,16, of Parroha-5, were injured in the blast. Dhani Ram has been admitted to a hospital in Butwal while Thapa is back home after treatment.

A report from Dhangadhi said three civilians were injured today when an explosive planted by the Maoists went off at the Dhangadhi Municipality–8. Maniklal Chaudhary (55), his son Ramchandra (22) and Chunuram Chaudhary (30) were injured in the blast.

All three are in critical conditions, a hospital source said.

Also today, Maoists carried out a series of explosions in various parts of Surkhet, this evening, aimed at the government offices and near security camps.
