One dead, three injured in Bhaktapur pile-up

BHAKTAPUR: A person died and three others sustained injuries in a pile-up involving three vehicles in Suryabinayak Municipality-5 of Bhaktapur district on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Roshan Kumar Basnet (35) of Bhimeshwar Municipality-13 in Dolakha district. Basnet was working at the CPN-UML central office. Kedar Khanal (24) of Koshipari of Kavre district, Manoj Yonjan (20) of Sailung in Dolakha, and Dhawa Moktan of Nigalpani in Ramechhap district were injured in the accident. According to police, the incident occurred when the taxi (Ba 2 Ja 2041) en route from Kathmandu to Suryabinayak rear-ended by the motorcycle (Ba 44 Pa 5152) in Srijananagar, before another motorcycle (Ba 85 Pa 7046) crashed onto them at 9:00 pm yesterday, injuring four persons - riders and pillion riders of two motorcycles. The injured were rushed to the Bhaktapur Hospital, where Basnet succumbed to his injuries at 9:15 pm the same night during the course of treatment. While three others are undergoing treatment there, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Krishna Prasain, at the Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur. It has been learnt that deceased Basnet was the motorcyclist of the two-wheeler (Ba 44 Pa 5152). Meanwhile, Jagati-based Police Circle has impounded all three vehicles and detained the driver of the taxi, Ganga Bahadur Thapa (40) of Muga in Dhankuta district, currently residing in Naya Baneswhar of Kathmandu district, said DSP Prasain. Further investigation into the case is underway.
