Bhaktapur, January 27 The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training is planning to open training institutions in all seven provinces under the name Model Technical College. Speaking at an interaction titled ‘Technical Education and Vocational Training in the Federal Structure’ organised by CTEVT today in Bhaktapur, Pushpa Raman Wagle, member secretary at CTEVT, said CTEVT was planning to establish a model multi-technical college in every province to run all its programmes. Wagle said CTEVT would emphasise on systematic and transparent monitoring and evaluation of technical education to improve quality of technical and vocational training in the country. Prof Dr Geeta Bhakta Joshi, member of National Planning Commission said that the task of adjusting CTEVT in the federal structure was currently challenging as many things were still in a state of flux.  He said, “Every year, 5,00,000-strong youth workforce is produced in the country but only 1,14,000 of them are trained.” He said rather than forming new institutions, it would be better to reform existing ones. He also said the government was carrying on financial planning and policy formulation to establish model polytechnic centres in all provinces. Dr Tanka Nath Sharma, an educationist, said CTEVT could play a crucial role in providing employment to  underprivileged people. He added that CTEVT  should focus its programmes on youths. He said, “CTEVT should analyse the demand of the market and train people.” Dinesh Chandra Devkota, a former vice-chairman of NPC said since 1990, the number of industries in the country had been declining, while remittance had increased by 35pc. “Now the time has come for us to review the CTEVT Act and produce skilled manpower,” Devkota said.
