Kathmandu, January 29 Nepal’s Bhupendra Thapa Magar advanced to the men’s 64kg weight category quarter-finals of the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in New Delhi today. Magar defeated Cameroon’s Albert Mengue Ayissi 4-1 and booked his place in the last eight. In other bouts, Tej Bahadur Deuba faced a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Indonesia’s Ilahi Ingatan, while Prem Chaudhary lost 5-0 against India’s Salonki Gaurav. On Sunday, Bimala Shrestha confirmed at least bronze medal after she made it to the women’s 54kg weight category semi-finals. Shrestha beat Tajikistan’s Farida Samieva in quarter-final match. Shrestha, who is competing in her second international tournament, will face India opponent Manisha in Tuesday’s semi-final bout. “I am delighted for confirming first international medal and now I will try to win next match and advance to the final,” she said.
