NPC enter Budha Subba Gold Cup final beating Sankata

DHARAN: Nepal Police Club registered a 2-1 win over Sankata Club to advance to the semi-finals of 20th Budha Subba Gold Football Tournament on Wednesday. Buddha Lama scored the winning goal for NPC in extra time to help the defending champions reach the summit clash. The semi-final encounter between two A Division outfits was headed to extra time after it was ended 1-1 in regulation time. Earlier at Dharan Stadium, Rejin Subba put NPC on driving seat scoring an opening goal in the 55th minute. But departmental team’s joy lasted for ten minutes only as Sankata winger Prakash Budhathoki leveled the score in 65th minute. NPC who has already won two tournaments – NSC Championship, Aaha Rara Gold Cup – this season, is set to play second major domestic tournament final within a week. NPC, under former national team midfielder Ananta Thapa had defeated star-studded Three Star Club four days ago to win the Aaha Rara for record fifth time. Now, NPC will face the winner between Three Star and Durgapur Steel FC of India in title clash.
