Two including Indian national killed on the way to Madar Baba festival

NAWALPARASI: Two persons including an Indian national were killed in separate incidents in Nawalparasi on Wednesday. One of the deceased has been identified as Bharat Chandra Patel (50), a permanent resident of Khajuriya in Uttar Pradesh in India, who died while climbing a hill on the way to the main shrine of Madar Baba. It has been learnt that Patel fell off the hill while climbing the main shrine located on a hilltop, nine kilometres north at Mahalbari in Susta Rural Municipality-2 of Nawalparasi district. A big religious fair takes place at the shrine during this time of the year and thousands of people from Nepal and India come to the fair. Likewise, Chhotai Baniya (50) of Phenhara in Nawalparasi district drowned in the Gandak River. Baniya was visiting the Madar Baba religious fair. He was bathing in the river before heading to the Madar Baba fair when the incident took place. Meanwhile, his 19-year-old son Brijesh Baniya, who dived into the river to save his father, is missing, police said.
