Lalitpur, February 14 Nepal’s Mayanka Rana advanced to the girls’ singles quarter-finals of the Nepal ITF Juniors U-18 Tournament Circuit-II here at the Satdobato Tennis Complex today. In the round of 16 match, Rana thrashed fellow Nepali player Ira Mehernissa Rawat 6-1, 6-2. Rana also became the first Nepali player to reach the quarter-finals of the ITF Juniors world ranking tournament. In another match, Mayanka’s sibling Mahika suffered a 6-3, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Mio Kozaki of Japan. Four Indian players made it to the last eight. Hrudaya Shah beat her Indian teammate Divya Vaani 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, Prinkle Singh saw off Japan’s Riko Kamiikura 6-4, 6-2, Trisha Vinod earned a walkover win from Ma CarmencitaI sabela Carlos of the Philippines and Sanya Singh defeated her teammate Archita Mahalwal 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Similarly, China’s Yiming Dang beat Rutuja Chaphalkar of USA 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2) and Hong Kong’s Chui Kei Leung thrashed India’s Srinidhi Sridhar 6-1, 6-2 to make it to the quarters. In boys’ singles, Pranav Khanal went down to Japan’s Keiju Miyake 6-0, 6-0 that ended Nepal’s challenge. Also, Japan’s Daisuke Inagawa beat India’s Prasanna Pravin Bagade 6-4, 6-0 and his teammate Taisei Kageyama saw off India’s Krishan Hooda 6-4, 6-1. Similarly, India’s Aaryan Zaveri outplayed his teammate Anurag Agarwal 6-3, 6-3, while another Indian player Naithaolin Calvin Golmei beat Hong Kong’s Hon Chun Lee 6-1, 6-3. Malaysia’s Jian Keong Takeshi Koey thrashed India’s Tarush Bagai 6-2, 6-0 and South Korea’s Jiho Lee bet Chinese Taipei’s Chia-Fan Tsao 6-4, 6-1. In girls’ doubles quarter-finals, Nepali pair of Mahika Rana and Mayanka Rana was thrashed 6-0, 6-2 by Chinese Taipei’s Skia Kung and Hong Kong’s Chui Kei Leung, while AbhilashaBista and Ira Mehernissa Rawat faced a 6-1, 6-4 defeat against Indian pair of Aspreet Kaur Bajwa and Prinkle Singh. Similarly, Yiming Dang of China and Manami Ukita of Japan thrashed India duo of Hrudaya Shah and Trisha Vinod 6-1, 6-0 and advanced to the semi-finals. In boys’ doubles category, Nepal’s Pranav Khanal, who teamed up with South Korea’s Jiho Lee, went down to Indian duo of Naithaolin Calvin Golmei and Shashaikant Rajput 7-6(3), 6-2. Similarly, India’s Anurag Agarwal and Poland’s Michal Wargocki defeated Indian pair of Tajasvi Mehra and Aaryan Zaveri 6-4, 6-1, while Jingyuan Chen of China and Hon Chun Lee of Hong Kong beat Indian pair Prasanna Pravin Bagade and Vansh Bhagtani 6-4, 6-4. Japan’s Taiyo Hirano, who teamed up with Malaysia’s Jian Keong Takeshi Koey, beat Chinese pair of Wenmao Li and Yangxuan Li 6-2, 6-4.
