Bajura, February 25 The far-flung Bajura District Hospital carried out an appendicitis surgery at a cost of only 4000 rupees. Dr Durga Maharjan said the hospital was offering patients cheaper rate compared to other hospitals across the country. “We charge them only Rs 4,000 for appendicitis surgery and we are still trying to lower the cost,” he informed. Dr Maharjan added that they were providing services totally free to poor and needy patients. He said private hospitals charge Rs 40,000 while government hospitals charge Rs 15,000 for appendicitis surgery. The hospital was able to provide the cheapest rate after its cooperation with the Ministry of Health three months ago. District Health Office Chief Dr Rup Chandra Bishowakarma said three patients had undergone the surgery at minimum cost. He added that now, there was no need for people to go to big cities for surgery as it was available in the district hospital. Earlier, patients were compelled to go to Dhangadi and Nepalgunj, among other places, for the same.
