Shrestha defends title

KATHMANDU: Homlal Shrestha of Tribhuvan Army Club won the fourth Lumbini Peace Marathon on Thursday. The defending champion Shrestha completed the 42.196km distance from Kudan of Kapilvastu to Mayadevi Temple in two hours, 54 minutes and 53 seconds. Another TAC athlete Hari Kumar Rimal finished second in 2:57:24, while Khagendra Bhata came third in 3:03:40. Top three athletes got Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. Meanwhile, Indian Army Tirtha Pun defended the half marathon title with the timing of 1:07:38. TAC’s Ramji Basnet came second in 1:07:54 and his teammate Tikaram Kattel was third in 1:07:58. Likewise, Sunil Thapa, Sanjay Rai and Satendra Yadav claimed top three spots in 5km race for U-16 athletes.
