NC CWC meeting to finalise candidates for President and Vice-President tomorrow

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress is set to finalise candidates for President and Vice-President elections in the party's Central Working Committee meeting tomorrow. Speaking to THT Online, NC spokesperson Biswa Prakash Sharma said 'the CWC meeting will take place in Sanepa Lalitpur, at 9 am tomorrow.' The meeting is expected to finalise candidates to run for the post of President and Vice President. Sharma further said the meeting would unanimously decide on candidacy for the post of speaker and deputy speaker. 'If the meeting fails to finalise the names for both the posts, an election would be held for the same.' Elections for the President and vice President has been scheduled for March 13. Speaker's election will be held on March 10 and deputy speaker's election will be conducted on March 16. NC has floated the names of Maan Bahadur Bishwokarma and Laxmi Rai for the post of President and Vice President respectively and discussions would be held in this regard in tomorrow's meeting. Meanwhile, the CPN-UML Standing Committee meeting is being held at Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar this evening for finalising names of President and Vice President, respectively. It has been learned that the meeting is holding discussion on whether to give continuity to current President Bidya Devi Bhandari or nominate a new candidate for the post. President Bidya Devi Bhandari and former PM Jhala Nath Khanal are said to be the front runners for the top post.
