'Reform in laws necessary for social transformation of women'

KATHMANDU: Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Hari Prabha Khadgi, has said that there would be no economic prosperity in the country till discrimination between women and men prevails in the society. Khadgi said so at a programme organised on the occasion of 16th establishment day of National women Commission (NWC) here today. Similarly, former Chairperson of NWC Nainkala Thapa pointed out the need to join hands by all women to end gender discrimination. Former member of NWC Lily Thapa said that the NWC should reach villages and play active role to reduce pains of women. Likewise, former Secretary of NWC, Shard Raj Bista, pointed out the reform in laws for social transformation of women. Presenting the working papers, Gita Pathak and Sushila Shrestha said that general people and specially suppressed women could not feel the change until there is no social transformation.
