MBSA rally to stun TAC, advance to semis

Butwal, March 26 Hosts Madan Bhandari Sports Academy came from a goal down to stun Tribhuvan Army Club 3-1 and advanced to the semi-finals of the third Madan Bhandari International Gold Cup Football Tournament here in Ramnagar today. Foreign recruit Max netted a brace for MBSA and Sedric Abba added one goal after Bibek Basnet had put TAC ahead in the match. Basnet opened the scoring in the 15th minute and the Armymen hung on the lead in first half. Max levelled the scores in the 63rd minute when he headed home the equaliser and he provided the MBSA with the lead four minutes later, again with a header goal. Abba sealed the victory for MBSA in the 76th minute. Max won the man-of-the-match award along with Rs 10,000. MBSA coach Sundar Thapa said his side made the best comeback. “Our players lost the rhythm in the first half due to mispasses. However, we worked on defense and attack after the break and were able to scored the goals,” said Thapa. TAC coach Nabin Neupane rued the missed opportunities and lamented the strikers for wasting goal scoring opportunities. “Although we took the lead in the first half, our players wasted many goal scoring chances and that cost us the match,” said Neupane. On Tuesday, defending champions Sunaulo Sangam will take on Nepal APF Club in the second quarter-final match.
