LALITPUR: Purwanchal Cricket Academy is organising the Birat Cricket Cup at the Nepal Police Training Centre in Biratnagar from May 3-19. A total of eight teams will compete in the 50-over-a-side league-cum-knockout tournament but the organisers are yet to decide the model of the event, informed PCA Secretary Subrath Poudel. “We might go on franchise-based model or conduct an event inviting clubs,” said Poudel at a press meet. Meanwhile, national cricket team skipper Paras Khadka said Nepali cricket needed 50-over tournaments. “I think after a long time, we are having a 50-over tournament in Biratnagar. I think tournaments like this will help in producing talented cricketers,” he added.
