FNJ honours nine former presidents on its establishment day

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has honoured nine of its former presidents on its 63rd establishment day, today.

House of Representatives Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara was present at the programme in FNJ central office based in Media Village to honour them. Homnath Dahal, Harihar Birahi, Kishore Nepal, Suresh Acharya, Taranath Dahal, Dharmendra Jha, Bishnu Nishthuri, Shiva Gaunle and Mahendra Bista were feted on the occasion.

They were felicitated as  a recognition of their contribution to democracy and fighting for press freedom.

On the occasion, the Speaker said the Nepali community was well aware of the role of FNJ against autocracy and in favour of democracy. He further stated that communications sector had immense contribution in the transformation of society, and insisted that FNJ should remain alert in keeping its glorious history, reliability, pride and prestige alive.

FNJ incumbent chair Govinda Acharya said there was a huge pile of challenges in journalism sector, but FNJ was wholeheartedly committed in protecting the common character, prestige and weight maintained by the former generation intact.

Former President Harihar Birahi suggested that the FNJ should further work to increase credibility and quality of media.

The Federation was established on Chaitra 16, 2012 BS of the Nepali calendar (March 29, 1956).

On the occasion, the FNJ launched aa special edition commemorating its establishment day.
