Murder probe stepped up

Biratnagar, April 15 Morang police have stepped up investigation into the murder of Sanam Shakya, an alleged carrier of smuggled gold. Shakya, 36, was allegedly electrocuted to death by members of the same smuggling racket in Urlabari of Morang for ‘involvement in the disappearance of 33 kg smuggled gold. Police said they had identified 38 suspects and arrested 17 of them. Chudamani Uprety, the mastermind behind the smuggling, is absconding and was allegedly assisted by cops from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division to escape. The Ministry of Home Affairs had formed a probe committee to investigate into the incident after some police officers were suspected to have colluded in the incident.
