One arrested in possession of cow meat in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: A person was arrested in possession of cow meat from Ishnath Municipality-1 of Rautahat district on Tuesday. The arrestee has been identified as Sheikh Tuphael (28), permanent resident of Gamhariya in Gadimai Municipality-3 of the district. A team of Armed Police Force patrolling the area in civvies tried to stop the Indian registered motorcycle (BR 06 Z 0677) Tuphael was riding for a random checking. However, Tuphael fled the scene before the APF team could intercept him. The patrol team chased him down and arrested him along with 10 kilogrammes of the meat, which he confessed was beef after interrogation. Tuphael was bringing the cow meat from India and was en route to his home when he was arrested, according to Armed Police Border Security Force Office, Rautahat. The seized meat was destroyed in the presence of media and animal quarantine office, informed Superintendent of Armed Police Force Prem Raj Pokharel. Meanwhile, Tuphael along with the motorcycle was handed over to Nepal Police for further investigation, said SP Pokharel. Slaughter of cow, the national animal of Nepal, is punishable under the new constitution of the country.
