NPC, APF make winning starts

Kathmandu, May 4 Departmental  sides Nepal Police Club and defending champions Nepal APF Club won  the opening day matches of the fourth KNP Japan National Women’s Volleyball  Tournament here at the NSC covered hall today. In the inaugural  match, NPC stunned Shivam New Diamond Academy by 3-1 sets in Group B, while APF thrashed Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre 3-0 in Group  A. NPC claimed the first set 25-12 before NDA bounced back to win  the second one 25-15. However, NPC took the next two sets 26-24 and 25-19 to win  the match. Similarly, APF conceded just 18 points in three sets against Jawalakhel. A  total of six teams are competing in the tournament organised by  Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation under the sponsorship of KNP  Japan. APF, Jawalakhel and Western Regional Volleyball Association  are in Group A, while NDA, NPC and Tribhuvan Army Club are in Group B. Top  three teams will bag Rs 150,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000  respectively, while the player of the series will earn Rs 10,000. The  foundation will also award a player with Sher Bahadur Khadka Special  Award worth Rs 10,000.
