Purnima Shrestha becomes first Nepali photo journalist to scale Mt Everest

KATHMANDU: Purnima Shrestha has become the first Nepali photo journalist to successfully ascend Mt Everest, on Saturday, spokesperson of Photo Journalist Club Dipesh Shrestha said. Shrestha reached the top of the world around 8:10 am this morning. 26-year-old Shrestha, who was born in Gorkha district, had also successfully scaled 8,163 metres Manaslu mountain last year. Before setting her foot to the highest peak in the world, Shrestha exhibited single photo exhibition of Nepali women climbers from Everest base camp to the summit themed 'Smiling Nepali Women.' With the objective of promoting Nepal's culture and tourism in cooperation with Nepal Tourism Board #PhotoNepal campaign and technical support from the Photo Journalist Club Nepal--Shrestha exhibited the photo exhibition. Shrestha, who is actively involved in photo journalism for five years, currently works as photo journalist for Karobar National Economic Daily.
