KATHMANDU: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari has extended greetings on the occasion of Everest Day today. Minister Adhikari has further stated that today is a big day for the world's mountaineering community. May 29 is marked as Mt Everest Day every year in memory of the first summit of the world's highest peak on this day in 1953. New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa made successful ascend of the Everest on May 29, 1953. Various memorial events are organised, processions carried out to celebrate this day today in the capital and the Everest region. Observation of Everest Day is expected to accelerate promotion of Nepal's tourism, mountain tourism in particular.
