KATHMANDU: Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has directed parliamentarians to be fully devoted to the task of formulating laws.

Inaugurating an orientation organised with the objective of imparting knowledge to lawmakers of Federal Parliament about the overall parliamentary process including law formulation, Speaker Mahara advised them to be alert and constructive while formulating laws and policies as this was the main duty of parliamentarians.

He said, 'It is necessary to increase presence of lawmakers in the House. People want to see their representatives being more active and constructive. We have expected positive support from parliamentarians to this effect.'

Similarly, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Timilsina urged the government to formulate laws on time in order to carry out activities in a smooth manner. He said, 'The government should end the practice of local representatives having to visit ministries carrying files of public work leaving the House meetings.'

Timilsina also suggested lawmakers to utilise their leisure by reading books at the library of Federal Parliament Secretariat at Singha Durbar.

Likewise, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sher Bahadur Tamang, urged the parliamentarians to pay attention towards formulation of laws that are related to people's welfare.

General Secretary at the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Manohar Prasad Bhattarai, said the two-day orientation was organised with an objective of imparting knowledge to lawmakers about parliamentary process and work execution techniques.

More than 200 lawmakers of the House of Representatives and National Assembly have been participating in the orientation organised at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor.
