Lightning strikes injure 3 women in Udayapur

GAIGHAT: At least three persons have been injured in lightning strikes in Udayapur district today. Udayapur District Coordination Committee assistant coordinator Ganga Rai and her elder sister Januka Rai were injured in the lightning strike, in Bokse, Triyuga Municipality-10 in the district, at around 1:00 am today, according to Udayapur District Police Office (DPO). The sisters were sleeping when the lightning struck their house, damaging property worth Rs 150,000. Likewise, in another incident, lightning struck sixteen-year-old Maina BK burning half her body and damaging her house, in Rautamai Rural Municipality-2 in the district at around 2:00 am. According to SP Nawaraj Bhatta at the DPO, the lightning also damaged a house belonging to local Lok Bahadur Karki. He said a goat belonging to Arjun Raut was killed in the lightning while the 4-watt solar panel installed in the house belonging to Jahan Singh was completely damaged. Statistics at the DPO show that lightning strikes in the district have claimed seven lives while 13 others have been left injured in the past two months.
