Incessant rain claims nine lives

Nepalgunj / Dang, July 2 Floods and landslides caused by incessant rainfall since last night have claimed nine lives across the country. Four persons, including two children, died after they drowned in flooded rivers in Banke today. According to District Police Office, two persons were killed in Baijanath Rural Municipality and one each in Kohalpur Municipality and Duduwa Rural Municipality. The deceased have been identified as Tula Ram Budha, 65, Lok Bahadur Sunar, 35 of Baijanath RM, and Ranjit Pasi, 4, of Kohalpur and Rima Kumari Yadav, 4, of Duduwa. Their bodies have been recovered, said the police. Superintendent of Police Tek Bahadur Tamang said Sunar and Budha were swept away by flooded local rivers while they were trying to cross them. Four-year-old Pasi died after he slipped into a pit filled with rainwater near his home and drowned at Gauwagaun of Khoalpur; Rima Kumari died after she fell into a pit filled with rainwater at Duduwa. In Rolpa, three persons, including an 18-day-old infant, died after the house belonging to Ramsari BK was buried under landslide at Runtigadhi Rural Municipality in the district at around 11:00 am today. According to Rolpa District Police Office, Kamala BK, 22, her neonatal infant Aayusha and her neighbour Chitra BK, 17, were killed in the incident. In Kailali, one person was killed and another injured after a house collapsed due to heavy rainfall at Godavari Municipality last night. The deceased has been identified as Dutha Rana Magar, 62, of the municipality. Police said the man was crushed to death after his house caved in while he was asleep. Police said Dutha’s wife Kadewa Rana, 65, was injured in the incident and is receiving treatment in a local health facility. In Parsa, a 15-year-old Pratima Ram died and another teenager went missing after a flooded local river swept them away at Parsagadhi Municipality today. The incident occurred while the ninth grader Pratima was returning home from the school. Police said Pratima died while crossing the flooded Fanti River. Police said Surendra Mahato, 15, who was with Pratima, went missing in the river while he was also crossing the river. SEE ALSO:
