Kathmandu, March 13:

Special advisor to the Swiss Government for Peace Building in Nepal, Gunther Baechler, today said the latest strategy adopted by the Royal Palace of Nepal was isolating it from the international community.

“The palace’s strategy is not only isolating itself from the international community, but it is also bringing the political parties and Maoists together,” said the Swiss envoy. He said Nepal needed support of the international community to resolve the conflict and said such a support should not be taken as international intervention.

He said that the Swiss government was ready to help Nepal resolve the two-pronged conflict. “Nepal has political and structural conflict. Political conflict should be resolved by political means while the structural conflict should be resolved by addressing the issues of development and poverty,” said the conflict expert at an interaction today. He further said Nepal needed a broader roadmap for resolving the “triangular conflict” between the King, political parties and Maoists.

NC-D leader Manmohan Bhattarai said the present Constitution would not resolve the conflict, as it seems to be an obstacle to the King, political parties and Maoists in fulfilling their ambitions.
