Heart ailments high in Jajarkot

Jajarkot, July 8 The number of children suffering from heart disease is seven times higher in Jajarkot district compared to other urban areas. Nepal Heart Foundation had screened hearts at some schools in Jajarkot. A team of experts led by Dr Prakash Raj Regmi had conducted screening of hearts on more than 6,000 children. According to Dr Kishor Jung Karki at District Hospital Jajarkot, heart problems were seen in many students of the district. “Heart trouble was seen in seven out of 1,000 children in Jajarkot while the problem was seen in one out of 1,000 students in places such as Kathmandu,” Karki added. They screened hearts on 6,000 students and detected 42 persons with the heart ailment. Of them, two children need surgery and arrangement has been made to conduct surgeries for free in Kathmandu. Out of 1,000 children, only one had a hole in his heart at the time of birth, which is normal, said the doctor. Lack of nutrition and the balanced diet are responsible for heart diseases, said Dr Karki. Chest pain, panting, shaking of the heart, leg swelling, sore in the joints, and blood in sputum are some of the symptoms of heart disease.
