5 dead, 8 hurt as jeep plunges 400m in Sindhupalchok

KATHMANDU: At least five people died and eight others sustained injuries after a jeep they were travelling on fell below the road in Sindhupalchok, on Thursday. Police identified the deceased as Bhim Bahadur Tamang (65), Jayarani Tamang (60), Podom Tamang (56), Nani Tamang (53) and Sunamaya Tamang (25), all residents of Bhotang area in Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality-3. The Bolero jeep (Lu 1 Kha 999) heading towards Manekharka from Tipeni fell about 400 metres below killing three passengers on the spot and critically injuring others at Salle Danda along the Melamchi-Manekharka road section, at 8:15 pm yesterday. All the injured were taken to Primary Health Centre, Melamchi where two of them breathed their last during the course of treatment while others were referred to Maharajgunj-based TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment, according to police.
