Elderly woman dies mysteriously

By Himalayan News Service

Rautahat, July 15 An elderly woman was found dead in a suspicious manner at Bhasedhawa of Katahariya Municipality, Rautahat, today morning. The body has been identified as that of Hemantidevi, 65, wife of Tej Narayan Yadav. She was found in the field two metres away from her home at 6:30 am. Locals had reported to the police after they saw the body lying in the field. A preliminary investigation showed that Hemantidevi might have had a natural death as her body did not carry any bruises or cuts. Family members and locals, however, demanded an investigation into the incident as it was very enigmatic. According to locals, Hemantidevi had a son Shivji Ray Yadav who had eloped with Meghu Sah’s married daughter Bigani Kumari Sah. They had eloped and tied the knot for the second time about a month ago. “After they eloped, people from the girl’s side had been threatening Hemantidevi with her life. Relatives of the girl used to come home and threaten her and me,” said Tej Narayan. According to Tej Narayan, Jawahar Mahato from the girl’s side had threatened them to sign a document annulling the new marriage.  “I was at the house of my son-in-law to seek help following the threat from Mahato. Unfortunately, I came to find out about my wife’s tragic death today morning,” Tej Narayan complained. Tej Narayan charged that the family of the girl had taken away his wife from home and murdered her. “It is a premeditated murder,” said Tej Narayan. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem at District Hospital, said inspector Manoj Yadav. ‘Investigation into the incident is on and we cannot tell how the incident occurred right now,” said Inspector Yadav. After the incident, relatives and family members have gone out of contact. “The girl’s family and relatives will be brought in for further investigation,” said Inspector Yadav.
