Youths demand nationalisation of private medical colleges

KATHMANDU: Youths affiliated with various student organisations have demanded nationalisation or transformation of all private medical colleges into non-profit trust.

A meeting of Youth Association of Nepal, Young Communist League (YCL), All Nepal National Free Students Union and All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) held on Sunday have put forth such demand.

Vice-Chairperson of ANNISU (Revolutionary), Surendra Basnet shared that the meeting also urged the government to begin the process to establish at least one medical college in each province.

Likewise, the student organisations also demanded formation of a high-level medical education commission to sort out the issues facing medical education sector.

The student organisations have further stressed that the ongoing hunger strike of Dr Govinda KC should be ended through talks.
