KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital’s senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC and the government have reached an agreement today ending the fasting doctor's 15th hunger strike. The government has agreed to amend 22 provisions of the Medical Education Bill in accordance with Dr KC's demands, the doctor's fast unto death will end in a while, Dr Abhishek Raj Singh, Dr KC's representative in the talks team informed. Dr KC and the government have inked a 9-point-agreement at TUTH where the former was staging his hunger strike that lasted 27 days. Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader Subash Chandra Nembang and educationist Kedar Bhakta Mathema offered Dr KC juice ending his fast unto death. 'We have agreed to bring positive changes in the education and health sectors in accordance with Dr KC's demands through written and informal commitments,' leader Nembang said. 'The commitments made by the government will be fulfilled through the parliamentary process and the House of Representatives will hold necessary discussions in the upcoming days.' According to Mathema, implementation of the suggestions forwarded by the report will ensure quality health education and make it accessible to all.
