Kathmandu, March 16:

The Clean Energy Nepal (CEN) and WWF Nepal are working together to include the topic of climate change in school curricula.

The two organisations working in the field of educating people about the challenges and remedies of climate change have recently held a two-day interaction on the issue with 32 teachers representing government and private schools.

“We found that the teachers are very much enthusiastic to understand and let the students understand the threats of climate change,” said Eliza Sthapit, the programme coordinator of the CEN.

She also said the teachers have given consent to include a chapter on climate change in school curricula for students at different levels.

“This is not going to be a part of official curricula but as an extra-curricular activity and the students will study about climate change in the schools,” she said, adding that meetings at different levels with authors are going on to prepare the course. In addition, the two organisations are going on with their training for students at schools on the issue.
