Province 2 govt launches green campaign with tree plantation

Siraha, September 28 Province 2 government today launched Green Province Campaign by planting trees at Balan khola Sanyasi forest in Lahan Municipality-3, Siraha. The campaign started in all eight districts of the province at once. Province 2 Minister of Financial Affairs and Planning Bijay Kumar Yadav inaugurated the campaign in Siraha today. At the inaugural programme, Minister Yadav said they would collaborate with all 136 local levels in the province to make the campaign successful. He argued that green campaign was needed to stop felling of trees in Chure Range as rapid deforestation was having an adverse impact on the environment. Minister Yadav said they launched the campaign with the aim of planting 50,000 trees and increasing greenery in the province. Divisional Forest Office Lahan forest officer Sunil Kumar Singh said as per the campaign around 6,000 trees would be planted in Siraha. The data shows that only 4.8 per cent land has forest coverage in Province 2, while the forest coverage in Siraha is four per cent of its total land. Similarly, Financial Affairs and Planning Development Minister Usha Yadav of Province 2 inaugurated the Green Province Campaign of the province in Saptari by planting tree saplings in Setidevi Community Forest of Surunga Municipality-4. As per the campaign launched with the view to increasing the forest area and conserving  the Chure range, some 2,000 tree saplings of various species were planted in one hectare area of the forest. “On the occasion, we also distributed 6,000 tree saplings of various species to the locals,” said Division Forest Office Saptari chief Dhirendra Prasad Singh.
