A movie can be essentially serious but also be highly successful as entertainment. Indeed, the most effective “serious” movies use slapstick farce to accentuate the gravity of the message therein. Thus, a preference for “serious” films does not exclude a taste for comedy. Even serious films have their funny moments, which make the films both more entertaining and persuasive.
