KATHMANDU: In an instance of the government’s high-handedness, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota intervened while the Development Committee chair was reading out the direction of the meeting on Thursday. Among the issues related to telecommunication sector discussed during the meeting was the matter related to delay in appointment of new leadership at Nepal Telecom. However, as Kalyani Kumari Khadka started reading out the direction to appoint the managing director at NT through open competition, Baskota intervened and said, “As NT has its own laws for appointing its leadership, the MD will be appointed accordingly.” Following Baskota’s argument, the Development Committee did not take any decision regarding filling the vacant top post at NT.
