A year on, Banke police fail to trace abductees

Nepalgunj, October 5 Years have passed since Gaurab Krishna Rastogi and Aamir Ansari of Tribhuvan Chowk, Nepalgunj, were abducted. Their whereabouts, however, are yet to be known. Gaurab was kidnapped on September 23, 2009, while Aamir was abducted in the same month the following year. A group of unidentified people had kidnapped Gaurab and Aamir for ransom. Police, nevertheless, have not been able to trace the whereabouts of either of the abductees till date. Banke police had arrested and made public the main accused involved in the murder of Hemkar family of Nepalgunj a few days ago. Locals of Nepalgunj say that they want Banke police to disclose the abduction of Gaurab and Aamir. A group of unidentified people had abducted Gaurab, 23, from Surkhet road with his motorbike while he was on his way to Nepalgunj from Rupaidiya of India. Gaurab’s father Krishnamurari had paid a ransom of Rs 700,000 to the kidnappers in Hetauda. His family had filed a complaint with police after Gaurab did not return home even after they paid the ransom. Kidnappers had sought Rs 40 million in ransom with Gaurab’s family, but they finally settled for Rs 700,000. Gaurab’s family ran Gaurab Enterprises at Tribhuvan Chowk of Nepalgunj and Rastogi Brothers at Rupaidiya. After his abduction, Gaurab’s family was displaced to India from Nepalgunj. Central Criminal Investigation Bureau and Mid-western Regional Police Office had formed separate probe teams and launched investigation into Gaurab’s abduction. However, they have yet to find whereabouts of Gaurab. One year after Gaurab’s abduction, Aamir was kidnapped. His family paid a ransom of Rs 900,000 to the kidnappers. Though the kidnappers had pledged to free Aamir within two hours of ransom payment, he has yet to come into contact with his family. Then Banke police Chief SP Bikram Singh Thapa had arrested Pramod Giri and Sushmi Berma of Banke’s Bhawanipur for their involvement in the abduction of Aamir and filed a case against them. Giri and Berma have been remanded to judicial custody and are in Banke prison. Bakriddi Sekh, Nijamuddin Sai, Rijwan sai, Jhallu Dhobi, Irsad khan Moin Kureshi and Sirajul Rahman, involved in Aamir’s kidnapping, are still at large. Banke police chief SP Arun Poudel said his office would resume investigation into the abduction of Aamir and Gaurab and expressed confidence that the guilty would be booked sooner or later.
