KATHMANDU: As many as seven persons died while 137 others sustained injuries in separate road accidents that occurred at major highways today.
At least 36 people were injured when a passenger bus met with an accident this afternoon at Pathibhara Sanischare Municipality-2, Morang along the East-West Highway.
The bus (Ko 1 Kha 4517) en route to Dharan from Kakarvitta met with the accident after the driver lost control over the vehicle.
All the injured are undergoing treatment at medical facilities based at Pathari, informed Police Inspector Kamal Bajgain of Area Police Office, Pathari. Police have arrested the driver and impounded the vehicle for further investigations.
Likewise, 32 people were injured in an accident involving another passenger bus today at Abukhaireni of Tanahun district along the Prithvi Highway.
The bus (Na 4 Kha 7841) slid off the road and fell some 15 metres below at Narighat of Abukhaireni-2.
No one suffered serious injuries in the incident and all the injured are being treated at Chhimkeshwori Hospital, police said.
Whereas, six persons lost their lives while 50 others were injured after a bus fell into Arunkhola in Madhya-Bindu Municipality of Eastern Nawalparasi on Sunday. The bus (Lu 1 Kha 8454) en route to Bhairahawa from Itahari in Province 1 lost control and fell down the road killing five persons on the spot at 5:00 am, informed police. It has been learnt that the vehicle lost balance because of over-speeding. Likewise, one person was killed while 19 others were injured in a jeep accident at Galyang Municipality-7 Dharadi in Syangja district this afternoon. The jeep (Lu 1 Ja 3380) heading to Galyang Bazaar from Sisaura met with the accident, said police. The deceased has been identified as Ram Prasad Bhandari (32) of Galyang-7. Of the injured, two are said to be in critical condition.
