Dhangadi, October 29 Civil Struggle Committee today resumed its protest, demanding the arrest of culprits involved in the rape and subsequent murder of Nirmala Panta, 13, of Bhimdatta Municipality in Kanchanpur. The struggle committee had halted protests during Dashain. Rights activists and victim’s family members staged a rally, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. The rally that started from Mahendranagar’s Madanchowk had reached the District Administration Office, Kanchanpur. The protesters then submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer Taranath Adhikari. Civil Struggle Committee Coordinator Mina Bhandari said they had submitted the memorandum with an ultimatum to the prime minister to ensure the arrest of culprits as soon as possible. Bhandari threatened to launch  stern agitation if the culprits were not booked soon. Submitting the memorandum to CDO Adhikari, Nirmala’s father Ekraj Panta said sacking of two police officers alone did not ensure justice. “Nirmala’s departed soul will get peace only after the culprits are booked,” he said. Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishnaraj Ojha said  that today’s protest was peaceful. “We are probing the incident very minutely,” added DSP Ojha.
