Kavre, October 29 Completion of a drinking water project with help of a solar lifting technology has solved the drinking water problems of locals at Tarkentar of Mandan Deupur Municipality-11, Kavre. As many as 17 families at Tarkentar were reeling under acute shortage of drinking water. Mandan Deupur Municipality and a donor agency had provided financial assistance for construction of the drinking water project. Mandan Deupur Municipality Mayor Tek Bahadur Waiwa said solar energy had made it possible to supply drinking water to the village. “We should use this modern technology to solve water crisis in other villages as well,” Mayor Waiwa said. A 91-metre deep well had been dug to manage water for the village and 9,850 litres of water is lifted from the well a daily basis. The drinking water project was constructed with financial support from Solar Programme, a non-governmental organisation. Solar Multiple Use Water System engineer Krishna Adhikari said locals had not even imagined that water could be lifted from a low lying area. Earlier, locals used to walk an hour to fetch drinking water. The construction of water project has relieved them of their hassle.
