MYAGDI: NCP (NCP) Co-Chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said the existing education policy needed change to achieve the goal of socialism mentioned in the constitution.

Addressing a programme organised by Myagdi Multiple Campus in Beni today, he said the problem of educated unemployed has increased in the country due to centralised and unitary policy adopted in the past.

He said education, health and employment were the responsibility of the state, and the government was preparing to bring new policy to address all the problems in education sector.

Co-Chair Dahal pledged to draft an education policy that is able to stop the brain drain, create employment, promote self-employment and produce abled and skilled human resources for country’s development.

“During the three days I was in Myagdi, I found that out-migration is the main problem here. We will give attention to make policy for exploiting the local natural resources by promoting self-employment so that people will stay within the district,” he said.

Likewise, Dahal opined that Myagdi with its natural hot water springs at many places could be developed into a health tourism destination. He also pledged to take initiatives for the protection of Beni Bazaar from river erosion and for completion of the Beni-Darbang-Dhorpatan road upgrading project.

On the occasion, he also released a book containing activities of Myagdi Multiple Campus. Chairman of the campus management committee Bal Krishna Subedi and Principal Tikaram Sapkota briefed the NCP (NCP) chair about the history, present status and future plans of the college that is run by the community.
