Electric buses to ply in Province 3

Hetauda, December 5 The government in Province 3 is set to roll out electric buses to provide transportation service to people in cooperation with Sajha Yatayat Cooperative Limited. An agreement to this effect was reached at a discussion between stakeholders including Province 3 Chief Minister Dormani Poudel, Financial Affairs and Planning Minister Kailash Dhungel, the provincial Policy and Planning Commission Vice-chairperson Khimlal Devkota, Kathmandu metropolis Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya and Sajha Yatayat chairperson Kanakmani Dikshit in Hetauda today. According to sources, the provincial government and Kathmandu metropolis will spend up to 300 million rupees and Rs 100 million respectively this fiscal to buy electric buses. “The decision to start electric bus service is in line with our policy to replace fossil fuel-powered vehicles in cities such as Chitwan, Hetauda, Banepa, Dhulikhel, Panauti and Kathmandu valley in the next 10 years,” said CM Poudel, adding, “Some 20 to 25 buses will be operated in the first phase as per the plan.”
