KATHMANDU: Photographs taken by the ‘First Women Journalists Sagarmatha Expedition-2018’ team while scaling the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, have been put on exhibition in town.

The photo exhibition titled ‘Women on Top’ is being held at the hall of Nepal Tourism Board since Friday. As part of NTB’s ‘Photo Nepal’ programme, the exhibition was organised on the occasion of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF).

As many as 50 photographs taken during expedition up to the summit (8,848 metres) from the area of Lobuche (4,940 metres) has been displayed.

Several activities of the mountaineers from popular Khumbu Icefall and base camp have been best captured in the photographs showcased at the exhibition.

On Sunday, Prime Minister’s spouse Radhika Shakya observed the exhibition with much interest and termed the exhibition 'very wonderful and inspiring'.

Likewise, while observing the exhibits, United Nations' Resident Coordinator for Nepal, Valerie Julliand said she was highly impressed by the success of women climbers and has true respect for the trend-setters.

The exhibition -- coordinated by ‘School of Creative Communications’ with a view to encourage students and young generation for climbing and trekking -- will conclude on Tuesday.

Mountaineering team member journalist Rosha Basnet shared that the photo exhibition was organised to impart the message that women also have eminent position and can reach atop.

The first women Sagarmatha expedition team, comprising Rosha Basnet, Kalpana Maharjan, Deurali Chamling and Rojita Buddhacharya, had successfully scaled the summit of Mt Everest on May 23 under the leadership of Phurba Tenzing Sherpa who has so far scaled the summit 13 times.

The photos provide vivid imagery of geographical location, environmental effects and activities around Mount Everest, NTB senior officer Sudhan Subedi was quoted in Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

NTB has been organising such exhibitions to promote tourism for the past three years. The Board organises photo exhibition on the first Friday of every English calendar month.
