KATHMANDU: House of Representative member-elect from Kanchanpur-1, Resham Chaudhary, has been administered oath of office at Singhadurbar, today. Speaker of House of Representatives, Krishna Bahadur Mahara administered oath of office to Chaudhary at parliament's secretariat this afternoon. Despite him swearing-in as a Member of Parliament, Chaudhary cannot assume any responsibility or receive benefits as a parliamentarian until he is cleared of the charges against him. Eight security personnel, including a two-year-old child were killed during the Tharuhat agitation in Kailali some two years ago. Chaudhary was the coordinator of the Tharuhat struggle committee when the incident took place. He had been demanding that the area with predominantly Tharu population be declared Tharuhat province. Chaudhary along with 56 others face charges of murder, attempt to murder and robbery. Of the 56 accused, 24 including Chaudhary, had been sent to judicial custody at Kailali district prison while the others were at large. He will return to Dillibazaar Sadarkhor, where he is currently imprisoned following court orders, in a while. The oath taking ceremony was earlier scheduled to take place at 11:30 am which was later deferred to the afternoon following some technicalities.
