Tamang clinches CMS Faldo Series Nepal Championship

Kathmandu, January 9 Subash Tamang won the title of the CMS Faldo Series Nepal Championship here at the Gokarna Golf Club today. The 16-year-old Tamang posted the 54-hole total of five-under 211 after he shot two-over 74 in the final round. He registered a five-stroke victory over defending champion Sukra Bahadur Rai, who carded two-under 70 for the total score of even-par 216. Apart from the overall trophy, Tamang also bagged the boys’ 12-16 age category title. Sam Doublard finished second in the category and he was third overall with the total score of seven-over 223. Doublard shot three-over 75 in the third and final round. Tamang played one-over 37 on either half. He faced a double bogey on the second and dropped a shot on the sixth hole against birdies on the third and seventh holes. After taking the turn, Tamang faced a bogey on the 13th and saved pars on eight other holes. The Surya Nepal Eastern Open champion Rai won the boys’ 17-21 age category title with the three-day total of even-par 216. Rahul BK was a distant second with the score of 22-over 238. Rai carded one-under 35 on both halves. He shot a birdie on the front nine. He the added three more birdies on the 11th, 14th and 18th holes and dropped shots on the 15th and 16th holes. In girls’ section, Kashmira Shah was the winner with the total score of 45-over 261, while Prativa Rai came second at 59-over 275. The boys’ sections winners Tamang and Rai earned tickets to Vietnam to participate in the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final to held at the Laguna Lang Co in Danang in March. Girls’ category winner Shah missed the chance due to poor scoring average despite finishing first in her section. A total of 25 golfers took part in the three-day tournament organised jointly by Nepal Golf Association and Gokarna Forest Resort under the sponsorship of ISME Pvt Ltd. NGA President Tashi Ghale and senior golfer Min Bahadur Raut handed over the medals and certificates to the winners.
