Thini, January 26 Snowfall coupled with rain has thrown normal life out of gear in Mustang. District Police Office, Mustang, said almost all parts of the district, including Jomsom, Muktinath, Lomanthang and Lete have received snowfall. Following the snowfall, transport services along the Beni-Jomsom, Jomsom-Muktinath and Jomsom-Lomanthang roads have come to a halt as snowfall thickly blanketed the roadways. Jomsom received snow measuring up to one foot and settlements above Jomsom experienced the snowfall up to two feet. Three rural municipalities — Lomanthang, Lo Ghekar and Thasang — are without communication services due to adverse weather. People have been forced to stay indoors to avoid the biting cold, said a local Deu Bahadur BK of Jomsom. Livestock cannot be taken out for grazing. They are being provided dried fodder. Jomsom Airport is covered by the snow up to one foot. Regular flights have been disrupted. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Jomsom office, said they were waiting for the weather to improve so that they could start works to clear the snow. Tara Airlines operates two flights a day on the Pokhara-Jomsom route. The under-construction development projects have been hampered by the snowfall. People of Upper Mustang have already moved to lowlands to escape the chilling cold. However, rain and snowfall have brought cheers to the farmers, who hope for favourable impact on their winter crops such as apple, barely, wheat and buckwheat. Journalist Nabin Lamichhane said that heavy snowfall coupled with rain had hit normal life in most parts of Manang. “Snowfall at Upper Tharangla, Tanke Manang, Yakkharka, Humle Kisang, Nahul, Narkhu has affected life in the district,” said Lamichhnae.
