Pokhara, February 1 Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today threatened to hit the streets against Nepal Communist Party (NCP)-led government if it continued to take arbitrary decisions breaching prevailing laws and democratic values. Deuba flayed the KP Oli-led government for its arrogance of two-thirds majority. Addressing a condolence ceremony of Kaski NC’s leader and democracy fighter Keshavraj Regmi in Pokhara, Deuba said, “The NC will not compromise with individual liberty, press freedom, independent judiciary and democracy,” he stated. Noting that the NC had been fighting for and democracy for more than 70 years, Deuba said that his party would announce protest programmes to press the government to fulfil the demands raised by Dr Govinda KC as the National Assembly had passed National Medical Bill by violating the agreement reached with the agitating doctor. Dr KC, a senior orthopaedic surgeon, who was on a fast-unto-death for the last 24 days demanding reforms in medical education, ended his hunger strike today. Deuba flayed the government for being apathetic towards Dr KC demands even as his health condition was deteriorating. Deuba said that the government’s functioning had put the parliamentary system had democracy in peril.
