Farmers adopt new method to tackle monkey terror in Bhojpur

Bhojpur, February 25 Local farmers have adopted a new method to take monkeys under control at Temkemaiyum Rural Municipality in Bhojpur. Exasperated with the monkey terror, the farmers have launched monkey control campaign after the simians destroyed seasonal crops in the field. The farmers are now busy building bamboo cages to trap monkeys. The rural municipality has also helped farmers in this regard. Ward No 6 Chair Surya Prasad Nepal said the farmers had started building cages after the campaign proved effective. He said preparation was under way to build cages in different places of the district. The rural municipality has been working to get the upper hand over monkeys with proper planning after the farmers complained of monkey terror. Chairman Dhurba Raj Rai of the rural municipality said no one would stay in the villages if the problem was not addressed on time. GokulBahadurThapa, a local, said the farmers would get some relief if the cages built with locally available resources were utilised to the fullest. “As many as 10 to 15 monkeys fall into the trap every day,” said Thapa. He added that locals had also migrated owing to the monkey terror.
