Eight-year-old saves herself from rape

Kathmandu, March 25 An eight year-old-girl in Lubhu, Lalitpur, has saved herself from rape. The girl managed to escape from the clutches of a 26-year-old man who had taken her to an under-construction building luring her with chocolates. Ranjan Mandal, a construction worker, had lured the girl studying in Grade II on the day of Holi on March 20. Family members of the girl and police said she was taken to the second floor of the under-construction building with the intention to rape. The girl’s father Lagan Bahadur Rana Magar said, quoting her daughter, she escaped the scene as she felt that something was wrong when the man started taking off his pants. According to her parents, the girl did not talk about the incident for a few days due to fear. She told her parents about the incident yesterday when her parents asked her about her missing pair of sandals. The girl had left her sandals at the site before running away from there.The parents filed a complaint with police in Lubhu after recovering the pair of sandals from the building. A case of attempt to rape has been filed against Mandal. The case has been forwarded to Metropolitan Police Circle, Satdobato, for further investigation and Mandal has been taken under control from Tikathali. The girl’s father said Mandal was not in his rented room for the last few days. Mandal, who hails from Bihar, India, has been working as a daily wager in Kathmandu for the last two months. Lalitpur District Court has remanded Mandal to five-day judicial custody. Meanwhile, the girl’s parents have taken the girl for medical check-up to Paropakar Maternity and Women’s hospital in Thapathali. The medical report is expected to come within a few days.
