KATHMANDU: A Cabinet meeting on Monday has given approval to cut down 899 trees that lie along the right of way of the high-voltage 220 kVA double-circuit Hetauda-Dhalkebar-Duhabi transmission line. The decision was made public only on Thursday. The construction of the transmission line has been halted since the last two-and-a-half years due to issues related to deforestation along the path of transmission line. If it is not completed on time, the power generated by 456-megawatt Upper Tamakoshi hydropower project, which will start production of electricity from next fiscal, could go to waste.
