Kathmandu, May 28 Metropolitan police circles in Thimi and Jagate of Bhaktapur have arrested six persons who were in the wanted list for their involvement in stealing motorbikes from Kathmandu valley. Those arrested, who used to ‘steal motorbikes in an organised way representing various gangs’, were found responsible for stealing at least 10 motorbikes in the past one year, according to police. They have been identified as Bijay Manandhar, 29, of Ramechap, Prabin Baruwal,19, Okhaldhunga, Prem Bahadur Katuwal, 27, of Okhaldhunga, Suresh Rai, 29, of Khotang, Umesh Tamang, 31, of Sindhupalchok and Vision Karki, 22, of Okhaldhunga. The two police circles in Thimi and Jagate, in a joint operation, busted them from their hometowns in a week long search operation. Police also retrieved six motorcycles from them. Police said they had sold the motorbikes at the rate of Rs 50,000 to Rs 150,000, the market price of which would cost Rs 300,000 to Rs 600,000. Kathmandu valley reported 1,398 complaints of bike thefts during eight months of the current fiscal 2018-19. Police, was able to retrieve only 376 bikes, arresting 69 people for the crime, until the first week of May 2019.
