95 settlements at high risk of landslides in Bajura district

Bajura, July 13 As many as 95 settlements in the nine local levels are at high risk of landslides in Bajura. District Disaster Rescue Committee has decided to send details of the settlements to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Data prepared by the committee revealed that Tribeni and Badimalika municipalities are at high risk of landslides. There have been a few cases of landslides in these areas affecting life. Locals who witnessed some of the houses in their settlements being buried under the debris of landslide have been terrified. District Administration Office has issued public notice to the people of the settlements asking them to remain on high alert. The DAO has also urged them to adopt safety measures to avoid possible untoward incidents. Chief District Officer Ganga Prasad Neupane said the district was at high risk of landslide. Landslides triggered by incessant rain have blocked the Budhiganga River at Dwari, bordering Budhiganga and Tribeni municipalities. Tribeni Municipality Mayor Ram Singh Rawal said water level in the river had increased. He added that the locals in the surrounding area had been warned against possible flood induced disasters.
