NAC to operate more domestic flights to contribute to VNY 2020

Kathmandu, August 4 While the country is focusing on bringing in two million tourists by 2020 and attracting more international travellers Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has announced that it will operate more domestic flights to make the Visit Nepal Year (VNY) 2020 campaign a success. Issuing a statement today the national flag carrier has said that it will add more domestic flights in new destinations. According to a statement, Executive Director of NAC, Madan Kharel, has directed the executive committee of NAC to speed up the preparations to start more domestic flights. “Along with international tourism NAC’s focus will be on domestic tourism as well for which the corporation is currently conducting test flights in different destinations across the country,” said Sulekh Mishra, newly appointed joint spokesperson for the corporation. According to Mishra, NAC has conducted test flights in Chaurjahari airport in Rukum and Taplejung airport on Saturday. Similarly, test flights to Rukumkot airport was conducted today while test flight to Bhojpur airport will be conducted on Monday. Likewise, test flights to Bajura and Tumlingtar will be conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. The test flights are being conducted through Y12E aircraft. “NAC has a plan to increase the number of domestic flights,” Mishra said. “NAC needs to play a more constructive role to make VNY 2020 successful, hence, we will be operating flights to those airports where private airlines are yet to start operations as public service is our major priority,” he added. Currently, the national flag carrier is operating domestic flight services to 25 districts across the country. Meanwhile, Nepal Airlines Corporation is conducting international flights through its two wide-body and two narrow-body Airbus aircraft to eight international destinations including New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Doha and Dubai.
